19 July 2009 - Millie's Christening

On Sunday afternoon Millie was Christened at St Mary's Church, Sawston. We were very pleased to see so many of our friends and family, especially friends we have made in the village. Charlie helped in the morning setting out the bowls of nibbles. Millie looked cute all through the service and Charlie helped Rev. Alan pour the water in to the font. After the Christening everyone came home for a cup of tea and some Christening cake (Charlie helped Mummy decorate the cake). Millie's godmother's were her Auntie Claudia and Mummy's friend Sue. Both were very good at giving Millie lots of cuddles. Millie had lots of fun eating cake, strawberries and crisps with her newly grown third tooth at the top.

We did some painting. Charlie was his usual neat self but Millie was a bit messier!!

4 July - Pea Picking

The local Sawston tradition of pea picking is upon us again. This tradition was started in the 17th century as it was a requirement in the will of John Huntingdon. John Huntingdon's Charity still continues to sponser the planting of peas, and as Eleanor is a trustee of the charity, we all decided to go along and support the event. Charlie helped to pick the peas and then later in the afternoon we sat in the garden shelling some of the peas. Millie played on her mat and laughed at Charlie and Charlie helped by selecting the pods for Mummy to shell and running round the garden!!

29 June - hot weather!!

Here is Millie keeping cool by playing with a balloon tied to a fan. Hours of entertainment! She also discovered the lavender in the garden and drove over there in Charlie's little car. She is wearing the pretty green dress Auntie Claudia bought her.

18 June - ongoing matters

We have been getting up to various things. Here is Charlie driving a combine harvester on Open Farm Sunday (7th June). Millie can now sit on her own and she loves watching In the Night Garden - here are Charlie and Millie goggling at the tele. We also visited Nanny and Grandad and Millie enjoyed watching the tortoise having his lunch. Rosie came over last week and we all played on the new (second hand) swings. Charlie has been playing with his Bob the Builder play dough set, and Mummy has finally managed to capture a picture of Millie's fine pair of bottom teeth!

5 June - Millie has cut her first tooth.

There is finally a little hard white scratchy bit on Millie's bottom gum, so her first tooth has broken through. She has been using it today to mascerate some strawberry and banana, which she seemed to enjoy.

31 May - At the Seaside in Hunstanton

The sunny weather is not good for Daddy's hayfever. Mummy said it would be better at the seaside and Charlie agreed, and as we are all now feeling much better from recent ills we decided to have a  day out at Hunstanton. Charlie and Millie paddled in the sea and Charlie did some digging in the sand. As Charlie was being very good he was allowed a pony ride on the beach we he enjoyed very much. After we had our picnic on the promenade, looking down at the ponies, we wandered round town and went back to the beach for more paddling and digging while Millie relaxed on the rug. On the way to the car we went past the fun fair. As Millie was asleep and Charlie was much perkier after a donut and not having wet sandy feet we had a look round and Mummy and Charlie had a ride on the carosel.  We had a really lovely day and were glad to be home and bathed and clean again. Millie decided to show how strong she is by standing up by herself and watching Charlie having his bath.

29 May - Picnic on Magog Downs

It is a lovely day and we cycled off to Magog Downs and had a picnic with Phil and Rosie. Afterwards we played at the park in Stapleford before coming home. Here is a picture of Millie with Phil and Rosie (we love their matching hats!!).

23 May - Millie has chicken pox

Poor old Millie has got chicken pox, so it looks like yet another week of staying home. We did, however, escape to Phil's house to play on Saturday so that Tim caould start to relay some slabs (and Andrew needed to go into work that day). Charlie and Rosie played on Rosie's new play cube/slide and in the paddling pool, while their mummies enjoyed the sun. Millie kept herself fairly happy but is showing a fair number of spots on her head and face. On Sunday she is really covered in them and looks quite a sorry sight. Poor little thing.

8-15 May - Holiday to Goddards with all the (extended) Baines family

We travelled down to Surrey to stay in a big house with Phil, Andrew and Rosie, Granny and Grandad Baines, Auntie Claudia and Mummy's cousin Judith and her husband David and children Katherine and Daniel. On the way down we stopped at Ightem Mote with Phil and Rosie. Charlie and Millie shared a room for the first time and did very well together. Charlie unfortunately came down with chicken pox on Sunday/Monday so we didn't have too many outings far from home, but the house and gardens were so big and there was a park just a walk away so we didn't need to go far. We did climb Leith Hill to see a view. One day we went out for a pub lunch and then played in the park. One day we went to a vineyard: Daddy tried all the wines and we had lunch and then walked around the vines. On the way home we stopped at Knowle and looked around the house and saw some deer.  Daddy has put all the photos on a separate page here. Below is a picture of us all and a few nice pictures. Millie has learnt how to blow raspberries and is very happy to blow them when she is happy!

30 April - Visit to Jill and visit to Abberton Nature Reserve

As the electrician couldn't come, we had a free day so we went off to visit Mummy's distant rellies Jill and Jenny. Here is Jill giving Millie a cuddle and Millie is wearing the hat Jill made for her. Charlie went for a walk with Jenny to look for tractors. Afterwards we went to Granny and Grandad's for lunch and then we went to Abberton Nature Reserve and looked at terns in a hide. Charlie also saw some tadpoles, and found a willow bower to sit in.

29 April - a Daddy Day

Mummy was away on a course all day so we played with Daddy and Auntie Ruth today. Charlie was very pleased when Mummy got home and everyone had had a fun day. Here we are playing in Millie's room and Charlie holding Molly Bear for her photo to be taken. Charlie and Millie are both wearing the outfits that Tim's cousin Kathleen sent them all the way from Canada. Don't they look smart!  Here is also a picture of Charlie doing some painting with cars on Monday wearing the messy play bib Claudia bought him for his birthday.

26 April 2009 - Visit to Claudia's

We have had lots of lovely days out recently, enjoying the sunshine. Last weekend Charlie and Millie's second cousin Claire came to stay and we went punting on the Cam and had a picnic at Wimpole. Unfortunately we were having so much fun that we forgot to take any photos. However, today we went to visit Claudia and it was Millie's first visit to Northampton.  Charlie played driving Claudia's Caterham and played with the remote controle tarantula. He was rather unfazed by the living 'little' spiders in the tanks in the sitting room!! Millie had lots of cuddles, and had fun looking at a rather fuzzier spider in Claudia's house.

21 April 2009 - Picnic at Cherry Hinton Hall

The weather was lovely and Phil and Rosie invited us for a picnic at Cherry Hinton Hall. After our picnic we all had a lovely time playing at the park and then went for a walk around the grounds.
