Eleanor Clapp - Maker of traditional, historical and modern baskets from English willow and rush. | |
Please note that I am currently on maternity leave following the arrival of my daughter Emilia on 2 January 2009. I will not therefore be selling baskets, taking commissions, or running workshops until 2010. Details will appear on this site when I am back in business.
I make baskets using the traditional English materials of willow and rush. Having participated in historical recreations, I know that re-enactors require good quality and authentic baskets. Baskets for historical uses can often be unusual or be required to be made for specific requirements.
I live just south of Cambridge, close to the borders of Hertfordshire and Essex. I have been a member of the Basketmakers Association for many years, and was an inaugural member of the Hertfordshire Basketry Group. I am also a member of the Historic Traders branch of the National Market Traders Federation.
I have many years experience in making baskets from willow using traditional English techniques and make willow or rush baskets to commission. If you want a specific basket and would like someone to make it for you then please get in touch with me for a quote or to discuss the requirements for your basket.
I also attend events to demonstrate basketmaking as a traditional craft. If you would like me to attend your event to demonstrate the craft of basketmaking, (whether it is a historical event or not), then please contact me for details of my demonstration rates.
I have recently started to run workshops teaching beginners and improvers the skills of willow basketry in the Cambridge area. See my workshops page for details of forthcoming workshops.
